Begin by placing the bike up on the center stand. To make the job
easier, put a 2X4 behind the rear tire... |
...and roll the bike up onto it.
|
Put the center stand down and pull the bike the rest of the way up
using the pillion grab bar and foot peg. If you have a rear flat
tire, this is the only way you will get the bike on the center stand
without help. |
Use the 13mm and 12mm wrenches to loosen the pillion grab bar. |
Use the 12mm wrench to remove... |
...the upper shock mounting bolt and washer. Swing the pillion grab
bar back out of the way. |
With the 14mm wrench remove... |
...the lower shock mounting bolt. |
To remove the shock, firmly pull out on the upper portion of the
shock sliding it off the mounting post... |
...push it either left or right while lifting up... |
...to remove it from the swing arm mount. The shock can now be
serviced or replaced. Watch for the second
washer behind the upper shock rubber, it may stick to the rubber. |
Before re-installing the shock, spray the swing arm rubbers... |
...and the upper shock mount rubber with silicone. If you don't the
shock will be difficult to mount and you can tear the rubber. |
Mount the bottom of the shock so the threaded nib is to the inside. |
With the silicone it should slide on with ease... |
...loosely thread the retaining bolt on. |
Place the washer on the mounting stud and firmly pull the upper
portion of the shock outward... |
...and slip it over the mounting stud. With the silicone it should
not need to be forced. |
Swing the pillion grab bar back around and make sure the outer
washer is between the shock rubber and grab bar. Use the 12mm wrench
to tighten the bolt. |
Use the 13mm and 12mm to retighten the rear pillion handle bolt and
nut. |
Use the 14mm to tighten the bottom shock bolt and you can now remove
the right rear shock. |
